Excellent recital material, this fiery tarantella fits that sought-after category of“sounds hard, but is easy to learn” crowd pleasers. By definition, a tarantella is a folk dance of southern Italy. Like the tarantula, its name is derived from the town of Taranto. According to legend (nowdiscredited), the dance was a cure for the tarantula's poisonous bite. It is danced by a couple to a regularly phrased tune in 6/8 time, which gradually increases in speed.
